4 everyday things that are surprisingly like counselling
Looking into a mirror

Looking into a mirror

We like mirrors because they show us reality. They show us how we look to the people around us. Are we ready for a meeting, or fit for the party? We shave, do our make-up, fix our outfits in front of a mirror. Not that we cannot do these things without a mirror. But, the presence of a mirror helps us do a better job.

A counsellor, like a mirror, helps us see our reflection in a session. The counsellor reflects objective feedback without judgement or censure about how we are doing emotionally. Sometimes, about parts we cannot see ourselves, or those that we do not want to see. Counselling can feel enlightening. It can uncover hidden ideas, strengths and potential that help us do better at life.
