Importance of feedback
Growth and development are consistent and ongoing processes. A lot of us are able to achieve some growth through self-reflection. We are able to look back at our performance over a certain period and figure out what we did right or wrong, or what areas could be improved from our end.
The reflections that come from outside of us are equally important and can play a huge role in our development. These ’external’ reflections are called “Feedback”. We can receive feedback from either peers or a superior and it can be related to a specific task or even our overall performance, which we usually hear during appraisals.
Positive feedback is always welcome and we tend to be open to receiving it. With negative feedback, we are not so open and as a result we tend to misinterpret it and most often end up not taking it for our benefit.
