How to cope with suicidal thoughts

Signs to look out for

  • A persistent feeling of sadness with no apparent reason.
  • Intense fatigue - physical, mental and emotional.
  • Changes in sleep patterns - unable to sleep or sleeping more than usual.
  • Changes in appetite. Don’t feel like eating at all, or eating far too much.
  • Can’t be bothered with self-care routines like bathing, shaving, changing clothes
  • Withdrawal from friends and colleagues - spend a lot of time isolated. Even the things you used to enjoy no longer interest you.
  • Inability to focus on a task, difficulty making decisions or increased errors at work.
  • Crying bouts, or angry outbursts with no apparent reason, or disproportionate to the present situation.
  • Feeling helpless, hopeless and worthless. Life seems very difficult, and beyond your ability to cope.
  • Thinking about death as a way of escaping the misery you are experiencing. Or exploring painless ways to end life.
